INORGANIC IRON OXIDES & ULTRAMARINE PIGMENTS

To provide a very basic summary of ultramarine and iron oxide powdered pigments, these kinds of pigments all came from a natural, organic source, although are now synthetically produced to ensure the quality and safety of the pigment can be managed on a wide scale level. Iron Oxide pigments have been used since prehistoric times and were originally sourced from different shades of organically formed rocks. These rocks were then crushed and roughly refined down into a usable powdered pigment. Although this process of powderising pigments could never safely measure and maintain the levels of equally organic, toxic substances ( like arsenic ) and often produced varying grades and shades of pigment. Although this organic process of crushing rocks into pigments was safely scaleale for our modern world, these ancient pigments laid the ground work for the safer variation of pigments we know and love today. Now, iron oxide, chrome, dioxide and ultramarine pigments are now synthetically synthesized with the same chemical structure as it’s organic counterpart, without the attached safety risks. So although they are often called “inorganic” pigments, they in fact have the most organic, natural origin story.

These new powdered pigment variants are certified to the highest safety levels and have been deemed safe for use in cosmetic products on the eyes, lips, face and body, as well as safe for use in food and drug production.
